Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha Is Restoring Black History Through Opera — and Chicago Is Here for It
Now playing at the Harris Theater through May 4.
Hey Chicago Southsiders,
Can we talk about how beautiful the weather’s been this week? It finally feels like spring in Chicago, and we are so here for it.
We just wrapped up the Northwestern Medill Local News Accelerator bootcamp this week, and wow, what a ride. We made meaningful connections, tested new ideas, and walked away with a clearer vision for how Chicago Southsider can grow to serve you even better. Thank you for being part of the journey.
But you know what they say: all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy — and while I’m not Jack, I know how important it is to balance work with quality family time.
So we made sure to check out Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Chicago Southsider was on the scene as the who’s who of Chicago filled the Harris Theater. Read about my experience here.
If you’re interested, you can still grab tickets — there are shows tonight and tomorrow! I took my mom to her first opera, and she absolutely loved it. It was such a special reminder that while we can always carve out more time for work, the time we have with our loved ones is truly precious so make the most of it while you can.
Talk soon!
