Remembering Midge Kimberly on March 30: A Trailblazer, PR Maven, and Mentor
Midge Kimberly, a longtime NABJ Chicago member, left a lasting legacy through her journalism and mentorship.
Hi Chicago Southsiders,
Can you believe we're about to close out the first quarter of the year tomorrow? Wow! One quarter down, three to go. Time is flying, and we hope you're staying focused on your goals — we’ve certainly been working on ours!
This quarter has brought some exciting milestones for Chicago Southsider:
We were selected for the Northwestern Medill Local News Accelerator (still in progress!).
We welcomed a Medill graduate fellow to the team — Hope Moses.
We interviewed the winners of the 2025 Miss Chicago and Miss Chicago’s Teen Competition.
And we made time to celebrate South Side talent at Court Theatre’s production of A Raisin in the Sun.
Needless to say — we've been busy.
As we head into Q2, we're already thinking ahead to warmer days, summer events, and yes... our 2025 Holiday Gift Guide (it’s never too early).
Now, we’d love to hear from you. Your input helps shape everything we do — and we’re grateful for your support. Let us know what you want to see more of by taking our survey below!

Remembering Midge Kimberly: Honoring Her Birthday and Her Legacy
When you hear Midge Kimberly’s name in any room, certain words immediately come to mind: trailblazer, icon, PR maven, journalist, mentor, and friend. These titles only begin to capture the essence of a woman who devoted her life to empowering others.
Today, on what would have been her birthday—March 30—we pause to remember and celebrate Midge’s extraordinary life and the enduring legacy she left behind. Though she passed away on October 20, 2024, at South Suburban Hospital, her light continues to shine through the lives she touched, the stories she told, and the doors she opened for so many.
As we reflect on Midge’s powerful presence and unapologetic authenticity, we invite you to revisit one of her early editorials—one that perfectly captures her voice, her vision, and her fearless spirit.
